Emerging Technologies in Emergency Medicine

The Department of Emergency Medicine works closely with stakeholders across Columbia University, Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital to accelerate the responsible development, evaluation, and implementation of artificial intelligence that improves emergency patient care and advances the field of Academic Emergency Medicine.

Prior/ongoing projects include:

  • Use of natural language processing to evaluate teamwork communication
  • Leveraging large language models to evaluate risk of 72 hour returns
  • Machine learning & computer vision to automatically identify features on lung ultrasound
