Columbia’s Department of Emergency Medicine was one of the first to respond when New York City became the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. Our doctors and staff were at the forefront of developing new practices and standards of care to serve COVID-19 patients - from the development of the COVID-19 Field Guide for Emergency Physicians to designing protocols for monitoring COVID patients from home. Their experiences, research, and best practices have helped to set national guidelines and educate the medical community across the United States and around the world. With your support, we can transform emergency medicine both for patients and for our providers.

We are uniquely situated to improve the field of Emergency Medicine on many fronts, from new ways to meet the needs of our local community to thinking globally to address health issues on a large scale. With talented physician-researchers and staff we are providing world-class clinical care and working together with our colleagues across Columbia to conduct multidisciplinary research that spans the spectrum from prevention to acute care to convalescence. Faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine are also educating the next generation of physicians and creating novel training programs based on real-world experiences.

Columbia continues to persevere in its mission of providing extraordinary patient care that is accessible to all, developing innovative research, and educating tomorrow’s clinicians ensuring that they are prepared for whatever comes.
