Overview: What started as an individual's interest led to a small group of individuals who share the same passion in public health and the desire to help the community we serve. The Emergency Department is by default, the safety net for the most vulnerable group of people. This group is a multi-disciplinary group. Established 2018, the group has been meeting and putting out lectures, discussion forums, etc. to learn about the local community; and how we can help increase awareness of SDOH and make strives to improve health and lives one small step at a time.
Mission: To increase awareness of SDOH in our work environment, change culture of how we perceive SDOH, and to help our patients link to the care they need.
Vision: The social emergency medicine group was created to cultivate interdisciplinary social change dialogue in an effort to use the emergency department as a social change agent and embrace the biopsychosocial framework for health and well-being.
Target audience: Anyone, everyone (The group has Social Workers, Case Managers, medical students, volunteers, navigators, attendings / residents / PAs, etc. coming that attend discussion meetings).
Meeting Schedule: Two meetings per month:
Planning Meeting: 1st Wednesdays
