Conferences
The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine is committed to education in the specialty through a comprehensive didactic curriculum that complements bedside teaching. Our divisional academic conference is held each Thursday, and fellows are protected from clinical responsibilities to participate.
A typical Thursday includes:
- Fellows’ Tutorial – An interactive clinical conference led by Pediatric Emergency Medicine faculty covering core topics over a three-year curriculum.
- In situ multidisciplinary mock code – Fellows participate by developing simulation cases, serving as resuscitation team leaders, and facilitating scenario debriefings.
- Divisional academic conference – Includes clinical discussions, evidence-based medicine sessions, ultrasound workshops, morbidity and mortality conference, guest speakers, and research presentations for faculty and fellows.
- Fellows’ afternoon sessions – Dedicated curricula in quality improvement methodology, research methods, point-of-care ultrasound, and evidence-based practice.
Fellows also participate in supplemental educational opportunities throughout the year, including difficult airway courses, cadaver labs and procedural training, regional BASE Camp, regional teaching and evidence-based medicine workshops, wellness workshops, debriefing workshops, and a longitudinal research methods course. Fellows are also supported to attend the national Fellows Conference and one additional national meeting each year.
