Innovation is core to the practice of emergency medicine, a specialty that excels at adaptability, resiliency, and finding creative solutions to complex problems. The Department of Emergency Medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons cultivates a culture of innovation that accelerates new ideas and emerging technology in support of our mission to lead and advance the field.
Our Office of Innovation fosters collaboration among departments, disciplines, academia, and industry to develop, evaluate, and implement solutions that improve care delivery, quality, education, research, and operations. That work spans human-centered design, artificial intelligence and machine learning, novel educational initiatives, simulation, digital and virtual health, extended reality, 3D printing, and other emerging technologies.
