Dr. Zachary Mannes is an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology in Emergency Medicine at Columbia University. Dr. Mannes received an MPH and PhD from the University of Florida’s College of Public Health and Health Professions and pursued a predoctoral clinical psychology internship at the Yale School of Medicine. Following his clinical internship, Dr. Mannes completed a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellowship in substance use disorder epidemiology at Columbia University. His work has been supported by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.

Research
As a licensed clinical psychologist and epidemiologist, Dr. Mannes’ empirical work leverages data from national surveys and electronic health records to examine rates, risks, and modifiable correlates of substance use and psychiatric disorders among adults with chronic pain. The long-term goal of his research is to inform clinical care, identify gaps in the provision of healthcare services, and to promote the uptake of behavioral treatments to mitigate substance use and mental health treatment disparities in patients with painful medical conditions.
