Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Mission: 

To cultivate an inclusive Department of Emergency Medicine that provides outstanding care to our diverse patient population. To support all of our staff, trainees, and faculty, especially those from backgrounds that have been historically excluded from medicine.  

To recruit, retain, promote, and support all individuals and create a workforce that reflects the diversity and talent of New York City, the larger metropolitan area, and the nation.

To foster the free exploration and expression of differing ideas, beliefs, and perspectives through scholarly inquiry and civil discourse.

Vision:

We aim to increase faculty and staff awareness and understanding of the diverse identities and experiences of their peers, and to foster greater engagement, compassion, and excellent care for our patients.

Current Strategies:

Promotion of anti-racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia and anti-bigotry education and cultivating allyship within the emergency department and beyond

Promotion of inclusive practices and education and cultivating allyship within the emergency department and beyond.
