Conferences

The Division of Emergency Medicine is committed to education in the specialty through a comprehensive didactic curriculum to complement bedside teaching. Our divisional academic conference is held each Thursday.  Fellows are protected from clinical responsibilities to participate each week.

A typical Thursday consists of:

  1. Fellows’ Tutorial- an interactive clinical conference led by select Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) faculty members, covering core PEM topics over a three-year curriculum
  2. An in situ multidisciplinary mock code in which fellows participate by writing simulation cases, serving as resuscitation team leaders and debriefing the scenarios.
  3. Academic division meeting, which includes clinical discussions, evidence-based medicine sessions, ultrasound workshops, morbidity and mortality, guest speaker and research sessions for faculty and fellows.
  4. Afternoon sessions for fellows providing dedicated curricula in quality improvement methodology and research, point of care ultrasound, evidence-based practice and research methods.

Fellows are provided with supplemental conferences throughout the year, including, difficult airway, cadaver lab and procedural courses, regional base camp, regional teaching and evidence-based medicine workshops, wellness workshops, debriefing workshops and a longitudinal research methods course.  Additionally, fellows are supported to attend the national PEM Fellows Conference and one additional national meeting each year.
